Week 5 Waiver Wire Wonders (Updated 10/06):

Don't wait too long for these gems...

Pick 'Em Up

Again, my frame of reference is 12 team (20 spot rosters) leagues.  So players I am looking at here are available in some of these leagues and I am going after them if I have a need...and remember that the best move often made is the one not made…but where is the fun in that?

Justin Fargas…you have seen what he can do as the featured back.  Nothing tells me that he cannot take over this position if given the chance…McFadden is a bust!  Take a shot at Fargas if you need a bye week plug in or some depth at your RB spot.

After a poor performance the last several weeks, many owners have given up on Mark Clayton.  Get him if you can and you have weakness.  The King says he is not done.  I dropped Coles and picked him up.  If you need some explanation of why I did this, then give me a shout…Kelley Washington remains an okay option solely based on the production of the Raven offense.  Mason is already banged up a bit…normally he plays through injuries and plays tough…but in his last year…and older???

Massaquoi is worth owning especially after the Edwards departure.  Chances are Chansi will take some time getting adjusted and won’t have an immediate impact.  Speaking of which, grab both Anderson and Massaquoi…Anderson is an excellent back-up quarterback at this point in the season to get on waivers.  I picked him up last week in my online championship.

Crabtree…not much threat outside of Vernon Davis in this passing game.  Give him a few weeks and it is possible he can start contributing.  You have to sit on him for a while, but this is worth a shot.

Some may have let go of Schilens with the way the offense has looked for Oakland and the extended time of the injury.  I have reluctantly kept him on my team and will wait and see what he does.  If you have a spot to fill I am telling you he can contribute.

Mike Wallace will continue to top the list of free agent wide receivers in my book…lots of upside here on a thin list.

Odds are that Kenny Britt is gone, but if he isn’t then I take him over Wallace.

What about Finley?  We thought he would do something and he did.  He has a bye week this week and may not have been targeted because no one needs a backup tight end that sits the first week you have him.  I own Witten and picked him up for insurance…and for a solid bye week replacement.  If you don’t get him someone will next week.  This dude is 6’ 6” with skills…is there a better red zone target?

Some may have dropped Nicks after he got hurt…looks like a good pick up to me.

Meachem/Henderson are also available in a lot of leagues.  They too are on a bye week and forgotten about.  How many games do you think that Brees goes without throwing a TD?  Injury can make either one of them a viable option.

If Roy Williams ain’t going…I say Miles Austin is a nice fill in this week!

Look at the underlying theme…just because a player is on a bye week, does not mean you shouldn’t pull the trigger and snag them…on the contrary…get them while you can!
