Top Fantasy Offenses 2010 by "The Oracle"

When evaluating a player’s fantasy prospects, one factor that goes into that evaluation is offensive environment. From a fantasy perspective, some teams are much more attractive than others. While being in a fantasy friendly offense is only one factor in judging a player’s fantasy worth, it's a good way to separate players who have similar fantasy value. Let's say you have Houshmanzadeh and Maclin as the 24th and 25th WR respectively on your draft sheet and you project similar production....it's draft day and it’s your pick in the 6th round, who do you take? I know who I take....Maclin because he is in a better fantasy offense and his role has a chance to expand whereas Houshy is already a WR1 on the Seahawks.  With that said, here are my top 5 fantasy offenses and a couple sleeper offenses that could end up producing beyond expectations in 2010.

  1. Saints...No need to go out on a limb here, the Saints have been one of the best fantasy offenses for a few years and there's no reason to think they won't be this year. One thing you'll notice in this piece is that all these attractive offenses have an above-average to elite starting QB and Brees may be the best. If you have not seen the Sports Science YouTube video, you should.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVoqA-LKGb4&feature=player_embedded# Put him in a great offensive system with a lot of different weapons and you have an offense that will produce several fantasy studs.  Take a shot on PT Bruiser for sure with Hamilton going down for the year as well as Devery Henderson and Lance Moore (versus the big names Colston & Meachem).  These two WR will provide excellent value and you won’t be spending an early pick.
  2. Packers...The Packers have a very good offensive system with one of the better QB's in the game. This O is driven by the passing game which includes a talented and deep group of WR's, but it's TE Jermichael Finley that could make this offense a great source of fantasy value. Finley's emergence as a top TE will create mismatches for defenses and will result in a lot of opportunities for his teammates to capitalize on single coverage.  James Jones and Jordy Nelson offer late round opportunities that can pan out if Greg Jennings or the aging Donald Driver go down with injury.
  3. Cowboys...The Cowboys offense will be special because they not only have the ability to pound the rock in the running game with Marion Barber, they also have two outstanding home-run threats in Felix Jones and Miles Austin. Having strong TE play in Witten will open up the running lanes and rookie WR Dez Bryant will make this one of the better fantasy offenses in 2010.  Fill up your tank with Boyz this fantasy season and leave the other fantasy owners in some nitrous oxide (N2O) dust, while you laugh your way to the bank!  Who knew that the real life applications of N2O could have such a connection to the Fantasy World of Football within your real life.
  4. Colts...Of the top fantasy offenses, the Colts are the most reliant on great QB play with Peyton Manning. Without him, they would be pretty pedestrian. Manning's ability to read a defense and find an open receiver is special. I don't expect the Colts to be the best offense this year, but they are consistently one of the top 5 fantasy offenses every year.  No play on draft day is a bad one…so long as your jersey number is one of the following:  11, 17, 18, 29, 31, 44, 85, 87
  5. Texans...The Texans have been a very good fantasy O for a few years now and they will be even better this year. They have a proven offensive system and lost their top CB in free agency.  The need to outscore their opponent will remain, meaning more fantasy points.

Sleeper offenses:

  1. Ravens...This team has generally been pretty mediocre fantasy-wise, but this year things will change. With the addition of Boldin and the improved QB play of Flacco, the Ravens will become more of a passing team...in part by design and part due to the fact their D is not as good as in years’ past.  The loss of their best CB for the year and Ed Reed out for a good portion of it lends itself for the need for more points.  The Ravens now have the offensive talent and opportunity to provide several fantasy leaders.
  2. Chiefs...While Cassel is merely average as an NFL QB, I see the Chiefs as a team that will produce some valuable fantasy players.  The addition of Charlie Weiss will help, as well as the emergence of Jamaal Charles and a dedicated and hungry Dwayne Bowe. Playing from behind will also provide a fantasy boost.
