So You Got Picks 5- 8? Don't Sweat, 8-Ball's Got Your Back!

August 09, 2009

Assuming 12 team PPR league...

In the next two weeks, many leagues will be establishing their drafting order and you will know what position you will have.  After much thinking, I believe it is best to be in top four or bottom four in 2009. So here is some advice for those that unfortunately will be drafting in spots 5 - 8.

If you are sitting 5 or 6 and ADP, MJD, Forte or S-Jax is there, you must grab them.  If the 4 stud RB's are gone, I would grab Fitzgerald or Andre Johnson, in that order as I am not as high on Turner as many. Limited catches, less carries and Gonzo takes some.

In the 2nd round grab Brees or Brady, even Westy if they are available (in that order).  If not, pick up another WR because there will still be value there.  I would take Megatron, Moss or Boldin.  Getting Fitz and Bolding would ensure you 190 catches/2,500 yards/20 touchdowns.  Nott to bad a start.

In round 3, you will have several options in the middle.  Here are the picks I like in order:  Pierre Thomas (look at 8-Ball Accountability Tracker for stats), Welker 90/1100/8 or Kevin Smith.

Round 4 could be interesting depending on who you have taken earlier.  If you got Fitz and Boldin, you have to grab Warner here!  You could easily have two of the top 5 WR, the top TE and a top 3 QB.  If this happens, do not sit back thinking about how to spend your winnings, there is still work to do.  If you took Brees or Brady, then obviously Warner ain't your guy here.  Look at Marshall, McFadden, Houshy and Edwards.

In the 5th, if you do not have Witten, you MUST grab a top tight end here.  I like Clark, Gates and then Gonzo.  If you nabbed Witten earlier and you only have 1 RB, this is the round to take another one.  Pick with confidence from Parker, LJ or Mareno.  If Lynch is there, take him.

In the 6th, if you only have one back, then take another one here.  I love Benson, White and Felix Jones.  If none are available, don't panik and reach but go after Coles or McNabb here.

Round 7 target the following:  Donald Brown, Carson Palmer and Lance Moore.

In the 8th, smile and be happy with Mason or Fred Jackson.  Both will be solid Flex players with upside.

Let's cap off where you should be thru round 8 if all goes well and players go close to the current Average Draft Positions:

1.  Fitzgerald

2.  Boldin

3.  Witten

4.  Warner

5.  Parker

6.  Benson

7.  Brown

8.  Mason

After round 8 you will need to start finding value:  I like the following sleepers:

9.  Hasselbeck

10. Chris Henry and Fred Taylor

11. Leon Washington, Justin Gage, Josh Morgan

12. Earl Bennett and Joey Galloway

13. Deion Branch and Justin Fargas
